Known for its beautiful scenery, quaint villages and idyllic walks, the Cotswolds is a must-visit all year-round. However, during winter, the Cotswolds is not to be missed, and Character Cottages has put together some of the best things to do in the Cotswolds this winter.

Gin and Whisky Tasting at The Cotswolds Distillery

The Cotswold Distillery crafts a range of single malt whiskies, gins, and liqueurs. You can spend your trip warming the cockles as you sample their tasty tipples, or if you fancy becoming a master of distillery yourself, book one of their masterclasses and blend their own.

“Crafting their spirits since 2014, The Cotswolds Distillery is the perfect place to visit in winter,” explains Rob Aldridge, Character Cottages Operations Manager. “You can capture the magic of a local Cotswolds pub, bottle it and take it home – what’s not to love!”

Character Cottages work in partnership with The Cotswolds Distillery and offer a discounted tour, when you use code VISITCOTS23.

Cheltenham Races

The Cheltenham Racecourse offers a dose of exhilaration and excitement and is often described as one of the prettiest racecourses in the country. Gold Cup week is the perfect reason for a winter trip with friends – why not get dressed up, remembering to wrap up warm and mix with the racing greats.

Winter Walks

A winter walk in the Cotswolds with the crisp winter skies overhead and crunchy snow beneath your walking boots or wellies will make for a lovely winter activity. The whole region is full of footpaths and walking trails.

From Newark Park to the Haresfield Beacon Walk, there are many top walking attractions where you can get out and stretch your legs in the fresh winter air, whilst taking in the beautiful scenery.

Cotswold Wildlife Park

This is a great one for keeping the family entertained. Home to one of the UK’s largest zoological collections, the park provides a home for more than 260 different species of animals! Enjoy the opportunity to explore this wonderful space with far less people around than in the warmer months.

“Winter makes for a much quieter time at many attractions, and this would be true with the Cotswold Wildlife Park. This is a great time to roam around the zoo with the family, without having to worry about a picnic spot or re applying sun cream!” adds Rob Aldridge, Character Cottages Operations Manager.

Corinium Museum

The Corinium Museum in Cirencester is an excellent place to explore during the winter months. One of our favourite Cotswold winter attractions, it features many exhibitions which celebrate the heritage and culture of the district, as well as many archaeological finds. Escape the cold and step into the warmth of this museum, admiring all it has to offer.

Winter really is a magical time to see the highlights of the Cotswolds. There’s so much to see and do no matter your hobbies and whether you’re wanting a romantic getaway, a trip with the family or a celebration with friends!
